My new work has rallied me on to get myself out there and advertise myself and my work, Im a 3d artist moving on to Computer Animaion and Special effects.

please have a look around my work , ecspecially my mummified minotaur , would like to hear your opinions .

Experimental animation

Idea

My idea is to experiment in stop motion to make a toy come alive, i will need to pick a toy in which will have personality and be able to capture its movements in a number of ways .

currant work in industry

"Stop motion (also known as stop frame) is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Dolls with movable joints or clay figures are often used in stop motion for their ease of repositioning. Stop motion animation using plasticine is called clay animation or "clay-mation". Not all stop motion requires figures or models; many stop motion films can involve using humans, household appliances and other things for comedic effect. Stop motion using objects is sometimes referred to as object animation." Wikipedia

This makes the book centre of attention and keeps the camera facing it at all times. this keeps the viewers eyes on it .
I think this is a good technique to keep it looking proffessional.

I liked the way that the character which was the dog in this video , was made with characteristic the creator had picked, so that it would wag its tale while having a drink.

The music is very important in this video as it keeps the atmosphere and makes it feel more realistic.

These are some fantastic examples of how they have given personality and kinetic movement to the subject.

Choice of Subjects

Fabric Mouse Cat Toy

These were the items that were spare and lying around at the the time.

Testers.

Small tester to see if i could make the robotic dog chase the ball.

I try a short sequence using two random items on my surface to see if i can get a short story from anything and it works rather well. I particularly like the way the camera scans behind the heater as it prepares to blow away the clock.

Muybridge

In 1872, the former governor of California Leland Stanford, a businessman andrace-horse owner, hired Muybridge for some photographic studies. He had taken a position on a popularly debated question of the day — whether all four feet of a horse were off the ground at the same time while trotting. The same question had arisen about the actions of horses during a gallop. The human eye could not break down the action at the quick gaits of the trot and gallop. Up until this time, most artists painted horses at a trot with one foot always on the ground; and at a full gallop with the front legs extended forward and the hind legs extended to the rear, and all feet off the ground.[28] Stanford sided with the assertion of "unsupported transit" in the trot and gallop, and decided to have it proven scientifically. Stanford sought out Muybridge and hired him to settle the question

Toy story and iron man video

Camera angles really made me enjoy this particular piece and made me think about how to capture my own footage.

I want to create a visually interesting piece exploring and experimenting with stop motion. A technique i have hardly ever used in the past.

Types of Stop Motion

Clay Animation

Clay animation (Which is personally my favorite type of Animation) involves sculpting and animating your model in mainly clay. Here's and example from the Cracking Contraptions Wallace and Gromit series:
Toy-Mation
Toy-mation uses a toy, such as an action figure or a Lego figure as the model used for animation. NathanWells made the following toy-mation/brick film clip for the 30th anniversay of the Lego mini figures:
Test 1.....

2-D Clay Animation
In 2-D clay animation, a flat clay character is laid on a flat surface such as a table and made to look like he is standing. Here's an example from a short Marc Spess made using 2-D claymation.
Paper Animation

Paper animation utilizes the same concept as 2-D clay animation. The only difference is that the animator uses paper cutouts instead of a clay figure. Here is a great animation, made by Megan Brain for a United Airlines commerical during the Summer Olympics.

Looking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=462zAoAlIY8

i like the slow movements and that the figures fit in with the scene this improves the realism.

Process

I started by aranging the dog and the props in the room.

I then chose my camera angles and moved the props little by little so not to get too much of a jump.

Every time i took a new picture i had to check for shadow and that everything was aligned.

I had to go back and edit any shots that didnt fit in and recreate the scene from scratch.

I then imported into After effects to add the title and ending pages.
